~ B.K.S. Iyengar

Pose Benefits:

  • Opens and stretches groin, hips, back, and legs
  • Improves balance
  • Tones abdomen

Asana Breakdown:

Begin in a squat with your feet positioned less than shoulder width apart with your slightly arms firmly planted between your legs. Walk your hands back as far as you can, fingers pointing forward. Engage all five knuckles as you gently begin to tilt your torso forward. Carefully begin to lift yourself off of the floor and extend your legs forward. Keep your inner thighs as high on your arms as possible. Straighten your arms, hollow your chest, and widen your shoulders to get as much lift as possible, then spread your toes apart. Slowly begin to lift the head upward. Breathe — see if you can hold this pose for at least 15 seconds, then release.

Love without Attachment, Live without Fear — the health philosopher

A woman says to her husband, a rabbi, “While you were away, a friend of ours visited us and left two jewels of incalculable value here for me to look after. They’re really lovely jewels! I’ve never seen anything so beautiful before. He has since come to claim them back, and I don’t want to […]

Sweet Potato Shepard’s Pie

Here’s a nice, simple meal to feed the family or have a prepared meal for yourself for days. I have designed this recipe with bold flavor to accommodate a variety of food allergies or preferences. See the recipe bellow for gluten free, dairy free, and even meat free options:

This meal goes great with a salad, sautéed spinach, or any other kind of green! Try this recipe, it uses new flavors and spices to deliver you a totally satisfying meal.

~Potato Layer~

2 Medium Sized Sweet Potatoes or 4-6 Yukon Potatoes

2 tbsp Coconut oil

2 Cloves of Garlic

1/4 cup sour cream or 1/2 cup vegetable broth

~Meat Layer~

3/4 lb of Organic Ground Beef or Seitan

1/2 Cup White or Yellow Onion

1/2 Cup Green Peas

1/2 Cup of Non-Gmo Sweet Corn

1 tbsp Cumin

1 tsp Turmeric

1 tsp of Salt

1 tsp of Pepper

1 tbsp coconut oil

First, bring a large pot of water to boil, then add peeled and chopped potato slices inside. Cover with a lid, turn down to medium-high heat and let boil for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, take out frying pan, add in coconut oil and beef (or beed alternative) on medium heat. Add diced onions, green peas, corn, and seasoning. Mix well and then cover with a lid until all of the contents are cooked thoroughly. Once finished, take off of heat and set aside.

When your potatoes are finished, strain, and place them into a large bowl. Place chopped garlic, salt, pepper, sour cream or veggie broth, and coconut oil in the bowl. Mash potatoes for chunky consistency or mix for a smooth consistency. Once finished, take a 8×9 in pan and place your meat and veggie layer evenly across the bottom and cover with your potato layer.

You Authentically

You Authentically Health Coaching is a Health Coaching Service whose mission is to inspire nutritious, healthy ways of living through the use of bio-individuality and primary foods so each person may live a life as their most authentic self.

What are Primary Foods?

You Authentically Health Coaching believes the foods we eat on our plates are secondary, our primary foods are exercise, spirituality, relationships, and career. Our primary foods are where are true health lives. Without balance in your primary food, it is impossible to fully experience the health of the food on your plate. As your health coach, this means that we will take a holistic approach to your overall health and wellbeing by acknowledging that your state of health, wealth, and overall happiness comes from a picture bigger. As a client, we will work together to set goals and make changes that allow each of these areas to become more harmonious and fulfilling.

What is Bio Individuality?

Each of us are unique and different: medicine for one person may be poison for another. So when we look at your overall health, we will incorporate this philosophy by honoring what is right for your body at this time. By taking this approach, we will work together to find healthy lifestyle and eating habits that serve you as an individual instead of clumping you into a “one-size-fits-all” diet.

Asana breakdown:

I love this pose! I have often heard it referred to as the “King pose of Yoga”. For some people this is their go-to pose: if they only have ten minutes to do some yoga, they are probably doing this. It has so many benefits beyond what is listed above. It’ll definitely give you a different perspective.

Now, it can look a little daunting at first, but I promise you that with practice the yoga Gods will bless you with the ability to get into this! It is safest to try this pose for the first time with a spot or against the wall. I like to do this with in the first half of my practice, often starting either in Down Dog (Adho Muhka Svanasana) or Dolphin (Makarasana). Use the position of your hands, which should align your middle finger with the middle of your shoulder, to find the proper width the elbows should be apart from one another. Another way to check is to come onto your forearms and reach for the opposite elbow. Clasp your hands together in front of you, place your head in your hands. Pressing into the floor, walk the legs closer to the upper body. Come onto your tip toes, aligning the hips so that then are directly above the torso, and lift the feet off the ground. Keep the knees bent, allowing them to draw close to the abdomen. Once stable here, Extend the legs directly overhead. Lock into a drishti (gazing point), unclench the jaw, and breath deeply.

Journal Entry: For Those Who are Afraid of the Dark

As I begin my practice, cloaked by wet darkness, I take an inhalation of sweetness and of earth. I light a candle in front of me: signaling the internal flame that is with in us all. My breathes feel heavenly and a joy is sparked with in. I feel in love. My body tingles with awareness and sensation.

I dive in deep into my first Down Dog, feeling a supreme and exhilarated heaviness in my upper lip. I can feel my skin. I can feel my IMG_2453body. Tears of joy cup my eyes: It feels like coming home. A true contentment surrounds me: I am doing whatI love, a practice that loves and cares for me. I let my drishti (gazing point) be the darkness. I side with it, acknowledging the universe with in. Acknowledging that there is darkness within me that is so often overlooked by the light. A darkness
as infinite and as vast as that which lies outside my window. And then it occurs to me that the darkness I look out upon is a deep, loving teacher and a true, compassionate friend. I realize I do not hate the darkness. Its deep shadows do not scare me. In fact, I feel welcom
ed to it and all of it’s loud, lightless beauty. And then there is a shift within. One that feels uninhibited and unchallenged by the dark and shadowy part of myself I have long denied. The parts of me that seep out, screaming for attention, but most of all to be understood. I see a part of me that wants to be known and loved and taken care of, even when there is no light to shine upon it. When there is only feeling, sensation, thought and sound. I hear it within me. And it feels safe and it feels nurtured by the breath.

Inhale: Sweet tenderness and divine strength fill me. And in this moment I know I am loved, I know I am safe, I know I am beautiful, strong and powerful. I know I have purpose and that my time is now, and that all of the ultimate and unlimited potential is inside of me being carefully molded by the divine to fulfill my life’s work. And that clarity will come. And that it is within. And that what is with in is truth.

As I am, As you are

Hello World!

My name is Aama Iaolani. I come from the great lands of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I have created this blog as a sanctuary and authentic view of my life. My journey so far has had some interesting twists and turns that I am sure will continue to ensue. I find a lot of blogs, marketing, and social media are shallow and may not gleam the wisdom people are searching for. Wisdom cannot be ensured on my end, however, I can definitely promise to tell you the truth. You know that silly, cliche quote, “Just be yourself because everyone else is already taken.”? Well it’s true. That’s why it’s a cliche right? So here it goes: my story for all its worth. On this blog I will feature yoga poses of the week, nutritious and delicious recipes, as well as the true truth I experience in my day to day life concerning love, yoga, & health.
